Last Day of the First Month!

In honor of my new set of locks and to keep in mind my journey so far, I am going to do a recap on my journey!
I think that I should start with my first set. (this being my second). When I started my first set, i did everything wrong! I started twisting and ripping random sections and when they started to get loose I started to crochet them all the time. I also was using a lot of products that I did not know were bad for locks. Because of all the products I was using, they started to smell kind of  bad and right away I cut them off after I had spent 4 months working on them. (That is my dark secret haha!). I was really upset about losing them and i instantly wanted them back but I was a little nervous that I was a little in over my head. This time however, I have done my homework on them and know exactly what I did wrong and what I should have done right!
I has been about 8 months since then. I restarted them on April 1st and am just today on my first month. I have been using Avalon Organics teatree shampoo and its amazing. I am using this product because it will help with dandruff, itching, dryness, it naturally fights bacteria, and leaves nice smelling and clean hair. No more smelly smelly! I had them sectioned by my boyfriend so that they look a little nicer to start off with. I used the twist and rip method again and this time I only used the crochet hook once or twice to help start them off.  Aside from that, I have pretty much left them alone to do their own thing. I am washing my hair every other day and I am going to try to do a deep clean once a month at least to make sure that they are clean and healthy.
What my locks have done in the last month: They have gone through a vicious cycle of getting really loose and frizzy to being really tight and back and forth. It has been so much fun watching them change! I have also noticed that my hair seems so much more healthy than it ever has in the past. I have had a few scare days where my locks get so loose that I swear one wrong turn and they will all come out. But, I just leave them alone and they fall back into place again. To help with those really loose days and to calm my mind, I have been using a light seasalt spray and it has done wonders! I did my first deep cleanse the other day and my hair was looser than it had even been with locks before. I was worried at first but now that they have had time to sit, they look and feel soooo much better and cleaner!
Whats to come: I might be getting a job a subway (Fingers crossed) and they are cool with my hair in locks. All i gotta do it put them back and im just fine with that! College will be starting up again in a few months and I'm excited to see how my locks look by then.

Anyways, this is whats going on with my lock journey! Thanks for reading and feel free to say hello world!

Day 22. Breaking news!

Ahhhh! So excited! Started using Avalon Organics Tea-tree and I loves it! I love it for the light natural smell of it. I don't like scented  shampoo because it leaves gunk, but this is made with natural oils for its not like that other crap. Been also using a seasalt spray to help with the tightening of my dreads and so far so good. I am REALLY surprised by how well the spray works. I have been applying the spray only a day to a few hours before I do my wash and I am shampooing every 2nd day. Got a wicked awesome blow dryer! Sadly is had a spider in it. NOT a pleasant thing to have flying onto your face when you turn it on! About shat myself!
I have been trying to stick to a more natural/neglect method now that my new dreadlocks are in a good place. I still have loose hair like crazy, but I still love it! I sadly had to start with shorter hair so I am gonna just have to wait for it to grow out. I could be mistaken but I have heard people say that when you have clean and healthy locks, it grows almost twice as fast. Not 100% sure about it, but wouldn't that just be awesome!?
Lint. I hate you. Were like... so not friends anymore! I had to switch blankets because mine was leaving white lint in my hair and I ain't having none of that!

Keeping this short.

Day 14. Thats two weeks, Haha!

I am really excited to have reached week two. Thus far, I have a total of 65 total locks, but, I know that its subject to change as time goes by.
For as long as I could remember, I had a huge problem with my hair. It's really thick, curly and hard to manage. My curls always knotted up just hours after doing them and when I would try to brush it out, I would just end up looking like a moogle with my pom-pom head hehe. It was a long battle that I could never win. Locking hair was just natural for me, I suppose. Two weeks ago I felt that I had finally had enough of this crazy head of mine and after gathering as much information as I could, I decided that I would give dreadlocks another shot. Since my last post, my babies have really locked up nice and tight. My family and friends have been really supportive of my decision to lock up and I am really thankful for that. Really exciting, I was able to talk to a lot of people and get some really good tips and lessons on dread care, however, I was a little late in learning that using a crochet hook can really damage dreadlocks in the long-run. With that said, I am super glad that I only did it a little bit.
Finally, my hair and I get along and I feel a lot more confident about my appearance. I know that I will get a lot of flack from some people who do not happen to like the style, but I am happy with myself right now and am really excited to go back to college with a new me.

First post on day 12!

So, hello world! I am making this blog for fun and to help me out on my journey into dreadlocks. I had them once before but I didn't quite make the journey because I don't think I was ready for the commitment. Now that I actually have a better idea as to what I am doing and what to expect, I am really hoping that this will be a positive expedition. I am on day 12 of my journey and yes, that means I started on April Fools day, hahaha! I began by sectioning them off small but not micro or anything. Micro-dreads just do NOT look good on me. I have seen so many people that it look absolutely gorgeous on, sadly, I am not one of them lol. I started them with twist and rip method but after day two I did the back comb method to keep them in place. Now that they are starting to tighten a little bit, letting them do their own thing seems to be working great with only slight maintenance using a crochet hook. For the most part, I only crochet because they are really fun to play with. ^_^
I really hope to enjoy my journey and hope to also meet some other people doing the same thing and maybe make from friends and learn some new tricks.
